The myth
Giant ground sloths were real animals that lived in South America until the end of the last Ice Age. Some species were as large as elephants and walked on the ground, resting on the sides of their feet. Brazil has many of their fossils, and a study published in 2023 described giant sloth bony skin plates made into ornaments by people in Mato Grosso around twenty-five thousand years ago, a sign that humans and sloths lived side by side. The ornithologist David Oren even proposed that the Mapinguari myth preserves a memory of these animals. The card is a MYTHENOR creation inspired by them.
Why it has this power
A level 7 rare with ATK 2300 and DEF 2500: defense above attack fits a slow, sturdy giant. It is an earth-element Beast, with Sun and Bull, the same as the Mapinguari. Fused with the Caipora, it becomes the legendary Mapinguari, with ATK 3500.
