The myth

Wenmara reinvents Anubis. The jackal god arose, perhaps even before the dynasties, in response to jackals digging up graves: a powerful divine canine was the best protection against wild dogs. His black color was not realistic; it recalled the embalmed body and the fertile soil of the Nile. Called He Who Is Upon His Sacred Mountain and First of the Westerners, he was credited with inventing mummification. In the Book of the Dead he tends the pointer of the Great Balance where the heart of the dead is weighed against the feather of truth.

Why it has this power

A legendary level 10 Beast-Warrior of Darkness with 3000 ATK and 3400 DEF: a guardian, more wall than blade. Moon beats Wisp, and Fox, the jackal's canine cousin, beats Hammer. It is the Necropolis's ancient rhyme: Jackal Judge of the Scales plus Guardian of the Duat's Gates, judge and doorkeeper joined in a single guardian.

Did you know

Priests wore masks of Anubis during funerary rites, embodying the god before the dead.
