Part 2 · Duel rules · Chapter 8

Constellations

Two wheels, ten symbols and a bonus that decides battles.

The two wheels

Each constellation beats the next one in its cycle, and the last beats the first. The Celestial cycle has four constellations and the Earthly has six.

The arrow points to the one that loses.

The bonus

When the attacking monster and the defending monster have constellations of the same cycle and one beats the other, the one with the advantage gets +500 on the value used only in this battle (the attacker's ATK, or the defender's ATK/DEF). Constellations of different cycles do not interact. On a direct attack the bonus does not exist.

Real example: the constellation turns the battle

Lake Texcoco Serpent (1,200) summoned with the Moon constellation attacks Mountain Lightning Falcon (1,250) summoned with Wisp. Moon beats Wisp: 1,200 + 500 = 1,700 against 1,250. The attack, which would lose, wins.

Choosing well

Every monster has two constellations, one from each cycle. When you summon a single card you choose which one is active. Look at the opponent's face-up monsters: choose the constellation that beats theirs.
