The myth
The Curupira is the guardian of the forests, one of the oldest beings recorded in Brazil: in 1560 Anchieta wrote that the Indigenous people feared the "corupira", who attacked them in the woods, and left them offerings. His mark is his backward-facing feet, which make hunters follow his tracks the wrong way and get lost. He protects trees and animals and punishes those who hunt out of cruelty or cut down the forest without need; to those who offer tobacco and respect, he may give help. The fiery red hair is a more recent image, partly from blending with the Caipora.
Why it has this power
A level 8 epic with ATK 2750 and DEF 2500: a powerful guardian. It is a fire-element Spirit, from the modern image of flaming hair. Wisp is the lights that lead travelers astray; Fox, the trickery of backward feet. Fused with the Smoke-Serpent of the Wildfire, it becomes the Boitatá.
Did you know
A 1970 law made the Curupira São Paulo state's official symbol of the guardian of the forests.
