The myth

In Brazilian folk Catholicism, an alma penada is the soul of someone who died and found no rest: because they left a promise unkept, a debt unpaid, or because no one prayed for them. The belief came from the Iberian Peninsula, where similar traditions exist, such as the Galician procession of souls. In stories told in the countryside, the wandering soul appears on roads, in old houses and on hills, moans at night and asks for a candle, a prayer, or for someone to finish what it left undone. Refusing brings bad luck; helping brings peace to the soul and to its helper.

Why it has this power

A level 5 uncommon with ATK 1600 and DEF 1500: steady and persistent, like one who never stops asking. It is a darkness-element Spirit that appears in the mountain night. Moon is the hour it moans; Fox, what it hides and what it asks for.

Did you know

In many inland Brazilian towns, candles are still lit on Mondays for the souls in purgatory.
