The myth

In the Amazon and Maranhão, encantados are beings who live in a parallel world, often at the bottom of rivers, where there are enchanted cities. They can appear as river dolphins, snakes, fish or people; they come up to festivals, fall in love, cause illnesses or help cure them. In caboclo pajelança and religions of Maranhão, healers enter trance and receive encantados to diagnose ailments and prepare remedies; Indigenous, African and Catholic rites blended there. In Belém, people say an enchanted snake sleeps beneath the city. The card depicts one of these beings of the deep, who sometimes rises to dance.

Why it has this power

A level 3 common with ATK 1000 and DEF 1000: a quiet balance, like one who lives between two worlds. It is a water-element Spirit, with Moon and Fox, night and enchantment. It is one of the three offerings of the Riverside Midsummer Dance, which summons the Enchanted River Dolphin.

Did you know

Among the encantados of Maranhão there are even kings, such as Dom Sebastião, the Portuguese king who vanished in 1578.
