The myth
The werewolf came to Brazil with the Iberian colonizers and took on a Brazilian character. In versions recorded by folklorists, the one who bears the curse, often the seventh child in a run of same-sex siblings, goes out at midnight on Friday to a crossroads and rolls naked where an animal has wallowed. Then he becomes a beast and runs the roads until dawn, when he must return to the same spot to regain human form. Since there are no wolves in Brazil, the creature is often described as a big dog, a pig, or a mix of animals.
