The myth

The Ipupiara is one of the oldest beings recorded in Brazil. In 1560 the Jesuit José de Anchieta wrote that the Indigenous people of São Vicente feared the igpupiara, "those who dwell in the water", which killed those who crossed rivers by canoe. In 1576 the chronicler Pero de Magalhães Gândavo told of a case from 1564, also at São Vicente: a sea monster came out of the ocean at night and was fought with a sword by Baltasar Ferreira, the captain's son, helped by enslaved Indigenous people. The creature measured about fifteen spans and had fur and large bristles on its snout. Ferreira was unable to speak for a long time afterward.

Why it has this power

A level 8 epic with ATK 2650 and DEF 2600: strength and toughness almost equal, like the monster that fought to the end on the beach. It is a water-element Beast-Warrior that rears up on its fins to fight. Moon is the night it appeared; Leviathan, the sea it came from.

Did you know

Many scholars believe Gândavo's monster was a sea lion or seal that had strayed onto the São Paulo coast.
