The myth

Jaguaretê comes from the Tupi îagûareté, "true jaguar", the name of the jaguar. In Guarani narratives, jaguars are not only forest animals: there are celestial jaguars, and they killed the mother of the twins Sun and Moon, which makes the great cats ancient enemies of both. In many cultures, eclipses were explained as an animal attacking the sun or the moon. The card, a MYTHENOR creation, brings these ideas together in one image: a giant, star-spotted jaguar leaping across the night sky and biting the moon, casting shadow over the forest.

Why it has this power

A level 7 rare, fusion only: Full-Moon Jaguar plus Jaci, the Moon. It rises from ATK 1700 to ATK 2350, with DEF 2000. It leaves earth for the darkness element, the shadow of the eclipse. Moon and Bull: the prey in the sky and the strength of the leap.

Did you know

In Old Tupi, îagûara came to mean dog as well after Europeans arrived, which is why the name for the true jaguar was born.
