The myth

The Tupi peoples were great navigators of rivers and coasts, as the Encyclopaedia Britannica notes. Their canoes, carved from a single hollowed trunk or made of bark, carried families, cargo and warriors. Sixteenth-century accounts, such as that of Hans Staden, who lived among the Tupinambá, describe canoes full of paddlers gliding along the coast. The Tupi word for canoe, ygara, lives on in names like igarapé, the canoe path. Today paddling is still part of daily life for many Indigenous and riverside communities. The card is a MYTHENOR creation honoring those paddlers.

Why it has this power

A level 3 common with ATK 1000 and DEF 1100: steady and tough, like one who paddles against the current. It is a water-element Warrior, with Moon and Leviathan. It is an offering for the Riverside Midsummer Dance, which summons the Boto, and, fused with the Genipap-Painted Warrior, forms the War Canoe of a Hundred Oars.

Did you know

The word canoe, used in many languages, came from Indigenous peoples of the Caribbean and reached Europe with the navigators.
