The myth

The Minotaur, named Asterion, was the son of Pasiphae, queen of Crete, and of a white bull that Poseidon had sent up from the sea. King Minos was supposed to sacrifice the bull but kept it; as punishment, the god made the queen fall in love with the animal. A being was born with a man's body and a bull's head, and Minos shut it away in the Labyrinth built by Daedalus. Athens, defeated by Minos, sent seven youths and seven maidens to be devoured, until the hero Theseus entered the Labyrinth and killed it (Apollodorus, Library 3.1.4 and Epitome 1).

Why it has this power

An Uncommon level-5 card with 1900 ATK and 1500 DEF: a bull's brute strength and little defense, because the Minotaur never needed to guard himself inside his own maze. An Earth Beast-Warrior, half man and half beast, he bears the Sun and Fox constellations, the sun of Crete and the deceiving corridors. Fused with Theseus of Athens, he yields Theseus, Victor of the Labyrinth.

Did you know

Ancient coins of Knossos bore the design of a labyrinth, a sign that the city embraced the legend.
