The myth
Aello was one of the Harpies, daughters of Thaumas and the Oceanid Electra. Hesiod names two, lovely-haired Aello and Ocypete, who flew as swiftly as the winds and the birds; the name Aello suggests a storm gust. They were spirits of sudden gales that snatched people away. In the Argonautica the gods send them to punish the seer Phineus by stealing and fouling his food; the Boreads Zetes and Calais, sons of Boreas, chase them until Iris swears they will torment him no more. Later art made them monsters with the bodies of birds.
Why it has this power
A Common level-3 card with 1100 ATK and 800 DEF: fast and aggressive but with little endurance, like a passing gust. A Wind Bird for the storm in her very name, she bears the Feather and Crown constellations, the wing and King Phineus whom she tormented. She is a material of the Rite of the Corycian Cave, which summons Typhon.
Did you know
The word harpy comes from the Greek verb harpazein, to snatch, and the islands where they were stopped were named the Strophades, the islands of turning back.
