The myth

Mummification was a sacred rite to preserve the body, the dwelling to which the soul would return. According to World History Encyclopedia, the body lay covered in natron for seventy days, was wrapped from head to foot in strips of linen, and the viscera went into canopic jars. Herodotus describes the costliest method, with the brain drawn out through the nose and the belly filled with myrrh and spices. Egyptians did not imagine mummies waking up to take revenge: that figure was born in modern fiction, and this card plays with it.

Why it has this power

A common level 3 Undead of Darkness with 1100 ATK and 900 DEF. Moon beats Wisp and Scarab beats Leviathan. A versatile piece: with a Warrior it becomes the Mummified General, with a Spellcaster the Forgotten King Beneath the Dune, and it is a material of the Weighing of the Heart, which calls Ammut.

Did you know

Herodotus says embalmers showed relatives painted wooden models so they could choose among three prices of mummification.
