The myth
In Mesoamerica, mirrors of polished obsidian or pyrite were objects of power. They were used to divine, look into other worlds and reveal what was hidden; many had wooden or feather frames and a hole to hang them by. The mirror was the emblem of Tezcatlipoca, “Smoking Mirror,” the all-seeing god, lord of night and of sorcerers. Historian Xavier Noguez studies how that mirror appears on the god’s head or foot in sculpture. This card’s sorcerer is a generic servant created by the game.
Why it has this power
A Level 7 Rare with 2300 ATK and 2000 DEF: the strongest Spellcaster in the mythology. Darkness and Moon are his master’s night; Fox, cunning. Fused with Tepeyóllotl, the jaguar, he opens the way to Tezcatlipoca, the Legendary Lord of the Smoking Mirror. He gains +700 from the Ritual Turquoise Mask.

Some Mexica obsidian mirrors reached Europe after the conquest and were used by sixteenth-century occultists.
