The myth
Centéotl, “Ear-of-Maize God,” is the Mexica deity of ripe maize, shown as a young man with ears of corn in his headdress and sometimes a yellow-painted face. Some sources make him the son of Tlazoltéotl, and he belonged to a group of maize gods alongside Xilonen, tender maize, and Chicomecóatl, the seeds. One myth tells that from Centéotl’s buried body sprang cotton, seeds and maize. His festivals marked the farming cycle, above all the month of Huey Tozoztli, when seeds were blessed.
Why it has this power
A Level 6 Rare with 2000 ATK and 2150 DEF: DEF above ATK, because maize feeds and sustains more than it harms. Light and Sun are the warmth that ripens the ear; Crown is his divinity. He is born by fusing the Young Maize Spirit with the Living Cornfield: sprout and field united in the god.
Did you know
In Nahuatl, cintli is the dried ear of maize, which gives Centéotl his name.
