The myth

Muiraquitãs are small green-stone amulets carved by Indigenous peoples of the Lower Amazon, such as the Tapajó and Konduri, before Europeans arrived. They mostly depict frogs, but also turtles and snakes, and were worn as ornaments and objects of protection and luck. Legend says the icamiabas, warrior women, dove into Lake Yacy-uaruá, the "mirror of the moon", and brought up a green clay that hardened in the air and became muiraquitã. The old idea that they were made of jade from Asia has been discarded by scholars. The muiraquitã is central to Mário de Andrade's novel Macunaíma.

Why it has this power

Rare equipment: it gives 1000 ATK and 1000 DEF to a Serpent or an Insect or Plant, the region's largest equipment bonus. It makes sense, since some muiraquitãs are shaped like snakes. With it, the Boitatá reaches ATK 4200 and the Victoria Lily DEF 3400.

Did you know

Accounts of muiraquitãs go back to Orellana's expedition, which descended the Amazon in 1541 and 1542.
