The myth

Piranhas are real fish of South American rivers and lakes, with sharp triangular teeth. The name comes from Tupi and is usually explained as "tooth fish". Their man-eating reputation comes partly from exaggerated accounts: in 1914 former US president Theodore Roosevelt, on an expedition with Cândido Rondon, described hungry piranhas attacking an ox, a scene reportedly staged to impress him. Most of the time they eat fish, insects, fruit and scraps, and help keep rivers clean. Riverside dwellers know where and when it is safe to cross. The card's shoal is a MYTHENOR trap.

Why it has this power

An uncommon trap that destroys the attacking monster. When the opponent attacks, the shoal surrounds the aggressor and removes it from the field before it deals damage. It is the rarer version of Mud that Swallows the Aggressor: rushing across the river was a bad idea.

On Amazonian rivers, piranha jaws have been used as scissors and cutting tools.
