The myth

The Soapstone Guardian is a MYTHENOR creation inspired by a masterpiece of colonial Brazil, not by an Indigenous tradition. Between 1800 and 1805 the sculptor Antônio Francisco Lisboa, known as Aleijadinho, carved twelve Old Testament prophets in soapstone for the forecourt of the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus de Matosinhos in Congonhas, Minas Gerais. Each prophet holds a scroll bearing a Latin inscription. The ensemble was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985. The card imagines one of these figures, carved to pray, stepping down the stairway to protect the town.

Why it has this power

A level 5 uncommon with ATK 1800 and DEF 1900: the toughest Machine outside fusions, hard as stone. It is earth-element, the stone of Minas Gerais's mountains. Feather is the lightness of the Baroque; Hammer, the sculptor's chisel. Great for holding off attacks in the mid-game.

Did you know

Soapstone is soft enough to scratch with a fingernail, which is why it is so good for carving.
