Creek Water Snake
Inspired by: The water snakes of Amazonian igarapés, and the igarapé itself, the Tupi "canoe path".

It swims among the creek's roots as if it owned the place.

The myth
Igarapé is a Tupi word usually translated as "canoe path": the narrow creeks and channels that cut through the Amazon forest, linking rivers, lakes and villages. Several real water snakes live in them, small swimming serpents that hunt fish and frogs among submerged roots. Almost all are harmless, but they startle anyone paddling carelessly. The card tells no myth; it honors the life of the igarapé, which for many Indigenous peoples and riverside communities is road, kitchen, school and a meeting place with the enchanted beings of the waters.
Why it has this power
A level 3 common with ATK 1000 and DEF 1100: a bit more defense than attack, like one who knows every root in the creek. It is a water-element Serpent. Moon and Leviathan tie it to the night waters. It is one of the three offerings of the Riverside Midsummer Dance, which summons the Enchanted River Dolphin.
Did you know
In the flood season many igarapés spill into the forest, and canoes glide over places people walk across in the dry season.
