The myth
The boa is a real, non-venomous snake found across almost all of Brazil, from the Amazon to the Atlantic Forest and the Caatinga. It hunts by ambush, often hidden in trunks and hollow trees, and kills by constriction: it coils around its prey and tightens with every breath. Its Portuguese name, jiboia, comes from Tupi, like those of so many Brazilian animals. In everyday speech, saying someone "hugs like a jiboia" means they never let go. The card tells no specific myth; it honors the animal and the respect forest peoples hold for great snakes.
Why it has this power
A level 3 common with ATK 1100 and DEF 1000. It is an earth Serpent, because it lives on the ground and in trunks, not in water. Sun and Leviathan tie it to the region's other serpents. It is one of the three offerings of the Rite of the Great Flood, which summons the Boiúna.
Did you know
The boa has no venom fangs; its strength lies in muscles that can sense when the prey's heart stops.
