The myth

Gram is the sword of the Völsungs. In the Völsunga saga a one-eyed old man, Odin, thrusts a sword into the trunk of the tree standing in the middle of King Völsung's hall, and only Sigmund can pull it out. Years later, in Sigmund's last battle, the same old man appears and the sword shatters against his spear. The widow kept the shards, and the smith Regin reforged them for Sigurd. The new Gram split the anvil in two and cut through a tuft of wool carried on the current. With it, Sigurd slew Fáfnir.

Why it has this power

A Rare equipment that grants 1000 ATK and DEF to a Warrior or Dragon, the fjord's largest equipment bonus. It split the anvil that forged it, the card says. In Sigurd's hands it reaches ATK 3300; and, curiously, it also serves the Dragons it was born to slay.

Did you know

The scene of the sword thrust into the tree Barnstokkr, which only the hero can draw, recalls the Arthurian legend of the sword in the stone.
