The myth

The shield wall, Old Norse skjaldborg, shield-fortress, was a battle formation in which warriors stood shoulder to shoulder, overlapping their round wooden shields to form a wall. Those in front held the line while those behind struck over the top with spears. It appears in skaldic poetry and in the sagas, and Scandinavians and Anglo-Saxons used it in battles such as Stamford Bridge and Hastings in 1066. It is not a myth but a historical practice: the card is a MYTHENOR creation inspired by it.

Why it has this power

A Common trap that negates one of the opponent's attacks. One shield is a plank, a hundred shields are a fortress, the card says: when the blow comes, the wall closes and nothing gets through. Cheap and reliable, it protects your breath in the most dangerous turns.

Did you know

Viking shields were usually round, made of wooden planks with an iron boss in the center, and sometimes painted.
