The myth
Yggdrasil is the vast ash tree at the center of the Norse cosmos. Its branches spread over all the worlds and the sky, and its three roots reach down to the wells of Urðr, Mímir and Hvergelmir. An eagle, the squirrel Ratatoskr, harts and serpents live in it, and the Norns water it every day. The name is usually read as the horse of Yggr, that is, of Odin, recalling that the god hung upon it. At Ragnarök, Yggdrasil trembles and groans. A tree that opens its eyes is a MYTHENOR creation.
Why it has this power
A level 9 Epic with ATK 2600 and DEF 3000: the tree that holds up the worlds is, above all, defense. A Light Insect-Plant, under Sun and Scarab, the rebirth it promises after the end. It is a ritual monster: the Rite of the Nine Roots gathers Ratatoskr, the Bark-Beetle and the Living Root.
Did you know
According to Vafþrúðnismál, a human pair, Líf and Lífþrasir, survive the end of the world hidden in a wood that many identify with Yggdrasil itself.
