The myth
Ymir is the first being of Norse creation, a giant born of the drops of ice that melted when Muspelheim's heat met Niflheim's rime in the chasm of Ginnungagap. Fed by the cow Auðumbla, he fathered giants from his own sweat. Odin and his brothers Vili and Vé killed him, and his blood drowned nearly all the frost giants. From his body they made the world: from his flesh the earth, from his blood the sea, from his bones the mountains, from his skull the sky, held up by four dwarves, and from his eyelashes the wall of Midgard.
Why it has this power

A Water Warrior, from melted ice and blood become sea, under Moon and Leviathan. He is a ritual monster: the Rite of Ginnungagap joins the Rime Drake, Auðumbla and the Ember Wyrm.
