The myth
The völva was a seeress and practitioner of magic in Viking Age Scandinavia, respected and feared. The name comes from vǫlr, staff, and the staff was her emblem. The most famous poem of the mythology, the Völuspá, is the prophecy of a völva who tells Odin of the world's creation and end. In the Saga of Erik the Red, the seeress Þorbjörg arrives at a farm in Greenland wearing a blue cloak and catskin gloves and carrying a brass-knobbed staff, to foretell the end of a famine. Graves containing iron staffs have been found in Scandinavia.
Why it has this power
A level 3 Common with ATK 1000 and DEF 1200: she fights not with strength but with knowledge. A Darkness Spellcaster, under Moon and Fox, the constellations of the hidden and of cunning. Her worth is fusion: with any Spellcaster she awakens the Norns of Urðr's Well, Epics with DEF 2900.
