The myth

Surtr is the giant who guards the border of Muspelheim. His name means the black one, perhaps for the soot of fire. In the Völuspá he comes from the south with the bane of branches, a sword that shines like the sun of the gods. At Ragnarök he leads the sons of Muspell, the bridge Bifröst breaks beneath them, Surtr kills Freyr, and at the end he flings fire over the whole earth. The sources name no dragons in Surtr's service: this soot wyrm is a MYTHENOR creation, the living ash the final blaze leaves behind.

Why it has this power

A level 6 Uncommon with ATK 1950 and DEF 1600: already a serious threat by mid-duel. The Fire element and the Sun constellation speak of Muspelheim's heat; the Crown reminds you that it serves a lord, the giant who will one day set the worlds ablaze.

In Iceland, a volcanic island that rose from the sea in 1963 was named Surtsey, Surtr's island.
