The myth

Curiously, the northern lights barely appear in the surviving Norse myths. The best-known medieval description is in the King's Mirror, a thirteenth-century Norwegian treatise that discusses the lights seen in Greenland and tries to explain them with the science of its day. The popular idea that Vikings saw the aurora as the gleam of valkyrie armor has no known ancient source. The Aurora-Veil Dragon is a MYTHENOR creation: the living guard of the colors that weave the Aurora Sky above the fjord.

Why it has this power

A level 5 Uncommon with ATK 1650 and DEF 1500: balanced, like a light that both guides and dazzles. The Light element comes from the colors of the northern sky, and the Sun and Leviathan constellations join the glow above to the vast sea over which the aurora dances.

Did you know

The King's Mirror, Old Norse Konungs skuggsjá, uses the word norðrljós, northern lights, for the aurora.
