The myth

Raijin and Fūjin, thunder and wind, are the most famous pair of storm deities in Japanese art. Kamakura-period wooden statues at Kyoto's Sanjūsangen-dō show them guarding the thousand images of Kannon. In the seventeenth century Tawaraya Sōtatsu painted them on a pair of gold screens, now a national treasure, and artists such as Ogata Kōrin made their own versions. They also guard the Kaminarimon, the "Thunder Gate" of Tokyo's Sensō-ji temple. The pair joins the bag of winds and the ring of drums into a single force of the sky.

Why it has this power

An Epic level-8 Thunder Deity with 2850 ATK and 2500 DEF, fusion only: Raijin plus Fūjin, the ancient rhyme of the storm. Together they exceed what either has alone. Thunder, Wisp and Crown come from Raijin, who sets the pair's tone. With Kusanagi they reach 3850.

Did you know

At Sensō-ji's Kaminarimon, Fūjin stands on the right of those entering and Raijin on the left, beneath the gate's huge red lantern.
