The myth

Raijin is the kami of thunder. In ancient times thunder and lightning were seen as a deity's violent action, and the word kaminari itself can be read as "the kami who resounds". For farmers Raijin brought rain and fertilized the rice; at the same time he was feared as a destructive force. In the Heian period he was linked to the goryō, vengeful spirits, such as that of the minister Sugawara no Michizane. Since the Kamakura period he has been shown as a demonic figure ringed by drums. Folklore says he steals children's navels.

Why it has this power

A Rare level-7 Thunder Deity with 2400 ATK and 2000 DEF: raw storm power. Wisp is the lightning's flash, and Crown, divinity. He is an ancient rhyme: fused with Fūjin, his eternal partner, he forms the Twin Tempest. With Kusanagi he climbs to 3400.
