The myth

The ushi-oni, "bull oni", is a yōkai of western Japan's coasts. Many descriptions give it a horned bull's head and a spider's body, or an oni's body with a bovine head, living in the sea or in ponds near the shore, attacking fishermen and poisoning with its breath. Toriyama Sekien portrayed it in his eighteenth-century illustrated collection. In Iwami, today's Shimane, it works with the nure-onna: she hands over a baby that grows too heavy to drop, and it comes out of the sea for the victim. In some regions, however, the ushi-oni is treated as a protector.

Why it has this power

An Uncommon level-5 Water Beast-Warrior with 1900 ATK and 1700 DEF: a heavy, tough sea monster. Water and Moon come from the night beach where it lurks; Fox, from the ambush it sets with the nure-onna. Fused with the Red Mountain Oni, it forms Shuten-dōji, king of the oni.
