The myth

The burning castle guard is a MYTHENOR creation. He gathers true images from Japanese history. During the Sengoku period, in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, many castles fell to sieges and fires, and chronicles celebrate retainers who held their posts to the end. The ideal of loyalty to one's lord, later called bushidō, prized that sacrifice. Japanese literature also knows warriors who do not leave the field even after death, like the Heike ghosts Hearn described in the sea of Dan-no-ura.

Why it has this power

A Common level-3 Fire Warrior with 1100 ATK and 1000 DEF: an ordinary soldier with no title or legend of his own, but steady at his post. Fire is the burning castle; Sun and Hammer, the gleam of armor and the weight of duty. With the Folded-Steel Katana or the Code of Bushidō he holds the line far longer than expected.

Did you know

Many Japanese castles seen today are twentieth-century reconstructions; the originals were lost to war and fire or torn down after the Edo period ended.
