The myth
Daphne was a nymph, daughter of the river god Peneus according to Ovid. Apollo mocked Eros, and the god of love took revenge with two arrows: a golden one that made Apollo fall in love and a leaden one that made Daphne reject love. Apollo pursued her and, almost caught, she begged her father for help, and he turned her into a laurel tree. Apollo embraced the tree and declared that the laurel would forever be his plant, crowning poets, victors and generals. Pausanias knows another version in which Daphne is the daughter of the river Ladon in Arcadia.
Why it has this power
An Uncommon level-5 card with 1400 ATK and 1900 DEF: the much higher defense is that of a rooted tree that chose not to be caught. A Light Insect-Plant tied to Apollo, god of light, it bears the Sun and Scarab constellations of the solar god and transformation. It is a solid wall against commons and uncommons.
