The myth

Narcissus was a youth of extraordinary beauty, son of the river god Cephisus and the nymph Liriope. In Ovid's Metamorphoses, the seer Tiresias foretells that he will live long, provided he never comes to know himself. Narcissus spurned all who loved him, including the nymph Echo, who wasted away until only her voice remained. Nemesis answered the prayer of a spurned lover: leaning over a clear spring, Narcissus fell in love with his own reflection and wasted away there, unable to leave. In place of his body grew a yellow and white flower.

Why it has this power

A Common level-2 card with 600 ATK and 800 DEF: trapped by his own reflection, Narcissus barely fights. He is a Water Insect-Plant, the flower born at the spring's edge, with the Moon and Scarab constellations of night reflection and transformation. He is a support card, not an attacker.

Did you know

In the Homeric Hymn to Demeter, Persephone was picking a narcissus when Hades seized her, long before Ovid's version.
