The myth
The Nemean Lion ravaged the region of Nemea in the Peloponnese. Hesiod says it was born of Orthus and the Chimera, or of Echidna, and raised by Hera; Apollodorus makes it a son of Typhon. Its hide was invulnerable to any weapon. Killing it was the first labor of Heracles, who lodged with the poor farmer Molorchus before the hunt. Unable to wound it, the hero strangled it in its two-mouthed cave. The Nemean Games, one of the four great Greek athletic festivals, were held in this region, and the victor's crown was made of wild celery.
Why it has this power
A Rare level-7 card with 2350 ATK and 2600 DEF: one of the few beasts whose defense exceeds its attack, reflecting the hide no blade could pierce. An Earth Beast, it bears the Sun and Bull constellations. By the ancient rhyme, with Young Heracles it forms Heracles, Clad in the Lion.
Did you know
Ancient authors said Zeus placed the lion in the sky as the constellation Leo.
