The myth
Arges was one of the three primordial Cyclopes, children of Gaia and Uranus, alongside Brontes, Thunder, and Steropes, Lightning; his name means bright, the flash. Hesiod says they had a single round eye in the middle of the forehead and that it was they who gave Zeus thunder and made the thunderbolt (Theogony 139–146). Imprisoned deep in the earth by their father, they were freed by Zeus and in gratitude gave him their weapons; according to Apollodorus they also gave Poseidon the trident and Hades the helm. Later, Apollo killed them to avenge his son Asclepius.
Why it has this power
An Epic level-8 card with 2700 ATK and 2400 DEF: a giant smith who shapes thunderbolts. A Thunder Warrior, he bears the Wisp and Hammer constellations, the flash and the anvil. By the ancient rhyme, Arges plus Eagle of Zeus yields Zeus, Lord of Olympus: the forger and the messenger together summon the master of the bolt.
Did you know
Hesiod's Cyclopes, divine smiths, are different from the shepherd Cyclopes of the Odyssey, such as Polyphemus.
