The myth
Ares, son of Zeus and Hera, was the god of war at its most brutal: tumult, bloodlust, blind courage. In the Iliad he fights for the Trojans and is wounded by the hero Diomedes with Athena's help, bellowing like nine or ten thousand men; Zeus calls him the most hateful of the gods. He was attended by Phobos and Deimos, Fear and Terror, and by the goddess Enyo. Soldiers invoked him before battle. The hoplite on this card is a MYTHENOR figure, a warrior who fights for the sheer joy of fighting.
Why it has this power
An Uncommon level-5 card with 1800 ATK and 1500 DEF: more attack than defense, as befits a servant of the god of fury. A Fire Warrior for the heat of combat, he bears the Sun and Hammer constellations. He benefits from Spartan Phalanx and from equipment such as the Pelian Ash Spear.

Pausanias says the Spartans kept a statue of Ares in chains, so that war and victory would never leave them.
