The myth

There is no dragon of Aeolus in Greek myth; the card is a MYTHENOR creation. In the Odyssey, Aeolus son of Hippotas lived on the floating island of Aeolia, ringed by a wall of bronze, and Zeus had made him keeper of the winds, which he could calm or rouse. He gave Odysseus an oxhide bag holding every contrary wind, tied shut with a silver cord. The card imagines a storm that escaped that bag and took the shape of a drakon, the great serpents the Greeks feared.

Why it has this power

A Common level-4 card with 1250 ATK and 1000 DEF: a respectable attack for its level, drawn from the raw force of a loosed storm. A Thunder Dragon, it bears the Wisp and Crown constellations. It is one of the three materials of the Rite of the Corycian Cave, which summons Typhon, father of the storm winds.

Did you know

The Aeolian Islands north of Sicily still bear the name of Aeolus, and ancient writers already linked them to the island of the winds.
