The myth

Nehkarath reinvents Apophis, also called Apep, the serpent demon of chaos and chief enemy of the sun god Ra. Every night, as the solar barque crossed the underworld, Apophis attacked it to stop the sunrise. Set, at the prow, drove him back with a spear, and the serpent Mehen coiled around Ra to protect him. Apophis was never destroyed for good: he returned the next night. Priests recited the Book of Overthrowing Apophis and burned wax figures of the monster. Storms and eclipses were read as signs that he was gaining ground.

Why it has this power

A legendary level 10 Serpent of Darkness with 3150 ATK and 3450 DEF: a huge defense for a monster that never truly dies. Moon beats Wisp, and Leviathan, the constellation of the monster of the primeval waters, beats Fox. It is born from the Necropolis's feared ancient rhyme: Serpent of the Sealed Chaos plus Serpent of the Black Horizon.

Did you know

In rituals against Apophis, Egyptians made wax images of the serpent and burned and mutilated them to help the sun rise.
