The myth
The jaguar, a night hunter that strikes by surprise, was the emblem of one of the Mexica elite orders and the animal of Tezcatlipoca, lord of night. Mexica military campaigns used tactics such as ambushes and feigned retreats to lure the enemy. One of the most famous episodes of the war against the Spaniards took place at night: on the so-called Noche Triste in 1520, the Mexica attacked Cortés’s troops as they tried to flee Tenochtitlan along the Tlacopan causeway. The game’s night warriors’ ambush evokes these images.
Why it has this power
An Uncommon trap that destroys the attacking monster — the same effect as the Stake Pit, one rarity higher. Jaguars cannot be seen in the dark until they strike. With two destructive traps, the deck can punish a careless attacker more than once.
