The myth

Chinampas are farming islands built in shallow lakes: farmers drove stakes into the bottom, piled layers of mud and vegetation, and planted willows along the edges, whose roots held the ground firm. Canals ran between them for canoes. They are often called “floating gardens,” but they were actually fixed to the lakebed. Highly productive, they fed Tenochtitlan; those of Xochimilco are still farmed and are a World Heritage Site. A chinampa that drifts away to dodge a blow is pure poetic license by the game.

Why it has this power

An Uncommon trap that negates one of your opponent’s attacks — the same effect as the Chimalli Shield Wall, one rarity higher. The blow lands in the water where the chinampa was a moment before. Running two negation traps raises your odds of protecting key monsters, such as ritual materials.

Did you know

The willows planted along chinampa edges are called ahuejotes, and their roots act as natural anchors.
