The myth

Nanahuatzin, “the Pustule-Covered One,” is the humblest of the gods. According to the Florentine Codex, when the gods gathered at Teotihuacan in darkness to decide who would become the new sun, wealthy Tecciztécatl volunteered, and the gods also chose Nanahuatzin, poor and sick. During four days of penance, Tecciztécatl offered plumes, gold and jade; Nanahuatzin could offer only maguey spines with his own blood and the scabs of his sores. When it was time to leap into the fire, the proud one hesitated. The humble one did not.

Why it has this power

A Level 3 Common with 600 ATK and 900 DEF: the weakest Deity in the game, like the least regarded of all gods. Earth recalls his poverty and wounded body; Sun and Crown, the destiny awaiting him. Fused with any Fire monster — the myth’s bonfire — he becomes Nanahuatzin, the Fifth Sun.

Did you know

The divine bonfire burned for four days before the leap, in the so-called teotexcalli, the “divine hearth.”
