Nahual in Jaguar Form

The myth

In Nahua tradition, the nahualli is a person with the power to turn into an animal, and the nahual is also the animal double bound to someone from birth. The jaguar was the mightiest double, linked to rulers and to Tezcatlipoca. Old sources describe beneficial nahualli, who protected the community and controlled the weather, and dangerous ones. These beliefs are still alive today in many Indigenous communities of Mexico, with local variations, together with the idea of the tonal, the vital force tied to one’s birth day.

Why it has this power
