The myth

Jaguar warriors, ocelomeh, formed with the eagle warriors the elite of the Mexica army. They went into battle wearing a jaguar pelt and a fanged helmet, their faces showing as if emerging from the animal’s mouth. The jaguar, the largest cat in the Americas, symbolized night, strength and Tezcatlipoca. Joining the order required capturing several enemies; before that, a youth wore only a novice’s plain clothing. This card’s apprentice wears the pelt before earning the claws — a boldness the game turns into a joke.

Why it has this power

A Level 3 Common with 1200 ATK and 1000 DEF: a bit sturdier than the eagle apprentice, as befits the cat. Earth is the forest floor; Feather and Hammer, the elite warrior in the making. Fused with any Beast, he becomes the Jaguar Knight of the Night — the boy who finally earns his claws.

Did you know

In Nahuatl, the phrase “in cuauhtli in ocelotl,” “the eagle, the jaguar,” was a poetic way of saying “the brave warriors.”
