The myth

In the Amazon, the year is marked by the flood and the ebb. Rivers rise several meters, pour into the forest and then recede, and all life, from fish to people, is organized around that pulse. In 2021 the Rio Negro reached the highest flood ever measured at Manaus. Water also appears in cosmologies: in the Apapocuva-Guarani narratives recorded by Curt Nimuendajú, the world was once destroyed by a great flood, and fear of a new destruction drove migrations in search of the land without evil. Fury of the Sacred Flood is a MYTHENOR spell inspired by that force.

Why it has this power

An epic spell, the region's most powerful: it destroys all of the opponent's monsters at once. It is the river deciding to return and sweeping everything away. Save it for the right moment, when the other side is full of strong monsters and yours can still rebuild.

Nimuendajú published this study of the Apapocuva-Guarani in Germany in 1914; the Portuguese translation only came out in 1987.
