Dance of the Festival Masks

The myth

Masks appear in many Brazilian festivals. In the Folia de Reis, which runs from December 24 to January 6, groups of musicians visit homes singing, accompanied by the bastiões, masked clowns who dance, tumble and guard the banner. Among several Indigenous peoples, masks of wood, straw, bark and feathers are used in rituals, and often the wearer comes to represent a spirit or a being of the unseen world; these rites are sacred and have their own rules. The MYTHENOR spell draws on the idea that, at the festival, the fierce turn gentle and the gentle turn fierce.

Why it has this power

An uncommon swap spell: all of the opponent's monsters swap their ATK and DEF. A defense-heavy guardian becomes a dangerous attacker, and a strong attacker becomes fragile. Use it against opponents with high attack and low defense, then strike while they are still in costume.

Did you know

In the Folia de Reis, the bastiões often play with children, who laugh at them and fear them at the same time.
