The myth

The Matinta Perera, a figure of the folklore of Pará and the Amazon, is an old woman who at night turns into a bird and whistles loudly on rooftops until someone promises her tobacco, coffee or fish; the next day she comes in human form to collect. In some versions the shape she takes is the rasga-mortalha, the barn owl, whose scream sounds like cloth being torn and which people associate with ill omen. The curse passes from mother to daughter, or to the woman who answers "I do" when the old woman asks "who wants it?".

Why it has this power

A level 6 rare, fusion only: the Matinta Perera with any Bird. It rises from ATK 1100 to ATK 2250, with DEF 1800. It is a darkness-element Bird, the night scream of ill omen. Feather and Crown tie it to the region's birds. The forgotten promise becomes strength.

Did you know

The name Matinta Perera is also given to a real bird, the striped cuckoo, whose insistent call is heard day and night.
