The myth
Seiðr was a religious magic of the Viking Age, used to see the future, heal, ease childbirth or sway battles, and also to cause harm. It was practiced mainly by women, the völur, in a session of chants that led into trance. In the Ynglinga saga, Snorri says it was Freyja who taught seiðr to the Æsir and that Odin practiced it too, though it was considered shameful for men. Sagas tell of sorcerers who raised storms against ships. The Mist Seiðkona is a MYTHENOR creation inspired by those practices.
Why it has this power
A level 5 Uncommon with ATK 1500 and DEF 1600: more guard than blow, like the mist that conceals. A Water Spellcaster, under Moon and Fox. With the Seiðr Staff she gains 700 ATK and DEF, and she can be the rhyme that fuses the Völva into the Norns.
Did you know
In Norse tradition seiðr was seen as a woman's art, which is why Loki mocks Odin in Lokasenna for having practiced it.
