The myth
The marmennill is a merman of Icelandic tradition, a wise creature living in the depths who knows the future. In the Landnámabók, the book of Iceland's first settlers, a fisherman named Grímr hooks a marmennill and asks it about fate. The creature answers that he need know nothing, for he will die before spring, and that his son should settle wherever the mare Skálm lies down under her load. And so it happened. In later tradition the hafmaðr, or havmann, lives on as a figure of sea folklore.
Why it has this power
A level 3 Common with ATK 800 and DEF 1000: a prophet, not a fighter. A Water Beast-Warrior, under Moon and Leviathan, the constellations of the deep sea. It holds the field and feeds water fusions, while its uncomfortable truth hangs over the duel.
Did you know
The Landnámabók records some four hundred settlers of Iceland, and among its genealogies it keeps stories like the marmennill's.
