The myth

This rite is a MYTHENOR creation. Mount Mikami, near Lake Biwa, is so regular in shape that it is called the "Fuji of Ōmi" and, like many sacred Japanese mountains, is itself considered the dwelling or body of a kami, revered at Mikami Shrine at its foot. On this mountain legend placed the giant centipede that coiled around the summit and attacked the lake's dragon king until it was slain by Fujiwara no Hidesato's arrow. The card imagines the reverse rite: creatures of forest and earth that wake the centipede.

Why it has this power

An Uncommon ritual: sacrifice the Young Jorōgumo, the Tsuchigumo and the Kodama to summon Ōmukade. Two spiders and a tree spirit, the creatures that crawl and those that take root, make the mountain shake. It opens the way to one of the archipelago's toughest monsters, with 2600 defense.

Calling cone-shaped mountains the "Fuji" of their region is common in Japan, and there are hundreds of these "local Fujis".
