The myth

The paralyzing mist is a MYTHENOR creation, but it draws on the real tradition of the Iga ninja. Edo-period manuals of ninja arts, such as the Bansenshūkai of 1676, gather recipes for smoke, gunpowder and tricks to escape, deceive and delay the enemy. Metsubushi, "eye-crushers", were powders of pepper, sand or ash thrown into an opponent's face to win precious seconds. Theater and prints exaggerated these tools into the magic cloud in which the ninja vanishes. The card imagines a mist that does not kill, but makes swords heavy.

Why it has this power

An Uncommon spell that makes all the opponent's monsters lose 400 ATK until the end of their turn. It is the powder that stings the eyes and slows the blow: it destroys no one, but tips close battles your way. It pairs with the Iga Shadow Ninja and any attacker needing a small edge.

Did you know

The Bansenshūkai was compiled by Fujibayashi Yasutake, of an Iga family, and is one of the most complete treatises on ninja arts.
